Friars Secure Key District Road Win Over Cardinals

PLANO — The Bishop Lynch baseball team earned a big district road win on Friday, defeating John Paul II 5-1 at the East Sports Complex. The victory moves the Friars to 15-16-1 overall and 4-6 in district play with two games remaining.

Hayes Bonds and Julian Alcala led the way at the plate and on the mound. Bonds went a perfect 3-for-3 with a career-high three RBIs, while Alcala tossed a complete game, striking out eight and allowing just one run to earn his fifth win of the season.

The Friars set the tone early in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits and three walks. After a leadoff walk, Noah Herrmann came around to score on a double steal. Bonds delivered the big hit of the inning, singling to right field to bring home Will McGuinness and Bennett Schroeder.

That early cushion was more than enough for Alcala, who delivered another dominant outing on the mound. The senior scattered eight hits, walked two, and threw 110 pitches across seven innings while lowering his season ERA to 1.69.

Bishop Lynch added two more runs in the third inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and patient at-bats. The Friars' first four batters reached base, with Elliot Brown eventually scoring after stealing third and coming home on an error. Schroeder later crossed the plate on Bonds' second RBI single of the game to extend the lead to 5-0.

John Paul II scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single, but Alcala closed the door to secure the victory.
