DALLAS, TX — Right before the storm hit on Friday night, the Bishop Lynch football team defeated Newman International Academy of Cedar Hill 76-0. This 76-point victory was the biggest margin of victory since the Friars defeated John Paul II 83-0 in 2007.
The offense continued their hot start to the season as they put up nine touchdowns in just 21 plays. The defense was flying around the field, creating five turnovers and scoring two touchdowns.
The Friars started winning from the coin toss as BL won the toss and elected to receive the ball. After a nice 9-yard catch from PJ Washington,
Legend Howell connected with
Ty Bradley for a 61-yard touchdown to open up the scoring. This is the first time this duo has connected for a touchdown after doing so seven times in 2022. Bradley and Howell would connect for a four-yard touchdown pass later in the contest.
After a three-and-out from the defense, the Friars scored on the first play of their second drive, this time a 60-yard run from
Godswill Giadolor making it 14-0. Giadolor finished the game with 5 rushes for 104 yards and four touchdowns. He has rushed for over 100 yards in all three games this season and has increased his streak of 100+ yards rushing to five games dating back to last season. His eight touchdowns in the past two weeks match his season total for last year.
Defensively, the Friars played great from start to finish. After not causing a turnover in the first two games, BL forced five on Friday night. All five turnovers were interceptions, and two went back for defensive scores.
Cole Gathings had two interceptions, one of which he returned 19 yards for a touchdown.
Nicholas Payne made most of his first career interception as the freshman returned his 42 yards for a touchdown.
John Medaris also had two interceptions on the night.
The Friars recorded three sacks on the night while getting pressure on nearly every pass attempt.
Drew Richardson recorded 1.5 sacks,
Will Maya had one sack, and
Harrison Jobes had 0.5 sacks.
G3 Zigler scored the only touchdown in the second half as the sophomore caught a 14-yard pass from
Matias Leon in the third quarter.
Eric Gonzalez went 10-11 from extra points and is now 17-19 on the season.
