DALLAS, TX -- The Bishop Lynch volleyball team went into Tuesday night's match against top-ranked Prestonwood Christian Academy with a lot of confidence after sweeping Ursuline last Thursday. The Friars (14-12, 1-1) took the first set in thrilling fashion but wound up dropping the match 3-1 to the Lions (15-3, 1-0).
The first set was an epic back-and-forth set between the Friars and Lions. When the Friars took their first timeout of the match, the score was 14-11 in favor of PCA. The most unbelievable part about that score, though, is that there had already been nine ties and nine lead changes before that.
The timeout worked well for the black and white, as they fought back to make 16-16 and eventually took the lead 20-19 before a timeout from Prestonwood. The Lions came out of the timeout and quickly retook the lead 22-21. They would also hold the lead at 23-22 and even had set point at 24-23 but the Friars fought back every single time.
BL finally got the lead at 27-26 and then
Cate Hatfield set up her twin sister Claire for the set-winning kill to give BL the first set win at 28-26. In the first set, the score was tied an incredible 19 times.
Prestonwood came alive after that first set and took the final three sets 25-13, 25-15 and 25-13 to win their district opener. As a team, PCA hit .346 throughout the match with a total of 59 kills.
The Friars made too many unforced errors in the final three sets to remain close. As a team, BL hit just .092 with 41 kills and 29 hitting errors.
Bishop Lynch looks forward to their next matchup against Prestonwood on October 5 in Plano.
