DALLAS, TX -- For the second time this season, the Friars went the distance in a best-of-five match and came out on top. Bishop Lynch came back from four down in the fifth set to defeat Hockaday 3-2 on Thursday night.
The Sietz twins once again led the Friars in kills as Avery and Riley each collected 11 on the night. Riley had a hitting percentage with .227. The Friars collected 13 aces on the evening with Mereith Scheel and
Riley Seitz each getting three. Scheel got her three aces on only five attempts.Â
With this victory, Bishop Lynch moves to 15-12, 1-1, and officially closes the door on non-district opponents. They also moved their home record to 3-1, proving that playing in front of Friar Nation is truly a difference-maker.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Friars won a tightly contested first set 26-24 behind scrappy play. They only hit .075 in the set but they had 24 digs.
Maddie Smotherman had 10 digs in the first set alone while
Cate Hatfield had four.Â
Hockaday bounced back very convincingly as the Daises took the second set 25-12. Hockaday hit an incredible .417 in the second set with 12 kills and only two errors.
The third set went in favor of the Friars again as it was another close battle with BL inching their way to a 25-22 win. This was BL's best hitting set as a team, hitting .321 with 11 kills and two errors. Riley and
Avery Seitz and
Claire Hatfield each had three kills in the third set with
Maddie Gappelberg assisting on six of them.
"Hockaday forced the fifth set by hitting over .400 for the second time in the match and, just like the second set, had 12 kills with only two errors.
The fifth set looked like it was going to go the Daises' way as they led 13-9. The Friars showed toughness and battled back to win the set 19-17 behind
Cate Hatfield's two kills, five assists, and two digs.Â
