DALLAS, TX --
Billy Gordon shot a 72 to finish tied for second overall yesterday while the new look men's team finished tied for sixth at the North Mesquite Invitation played at Tenison Park.
The Bishop Lynch men's golf team lost a lot of production from last year's team that finished runners-up at the TAPPS state tournament. Gordon is the lone Friar to return from that team and is also the only senior on the squad this year.
In the Friars' first tournament of the year, Gordon (72) led the team to a tie for sixth place against some quality opponents. Coming in second on the Friars team was sophomore
Bryce Beeson (85) with teammates
Mason Bauer and
John Carlton each shooting an 86.
Colin Neely rounded out the five-man squad shooting a 90.
"It was nice to actually get a tournament round under our belts. Tournament golf adds pressure that you can't simulate on the driving range or practice green. I saw some good things out of the guys, but we definitely have some areas in which we need to improve," said head coach
Barry Knott after the round.
