DALLAS, TX -- Bishop Lynch totaled over 500 yards on offense for the first time since 2019 but fell to UIL 4A power Celina High School 77-41 last Friday night.
Legend Howell finished with 305 passing yards while
Godswill Giadolor rushed for over 100 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Much like week one, the Friars received the opening kickoff and marched down the field. This week, BL was able to capitalize on the momentum and take an early 7-0 lead behind a Giadolor 8-yard touchdown run.
The Friars' second strike of the game came from a Howell 34-yard touchdown pass to PJ Washington. Many of those 34 yards came after the catch as Washington made a few Bobcats miss on his way to the end zone. Washington finished the game with 160 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
After an even 14-14 first quarter, the Friars played their best quarter of the night. Washington had his second touchdown with a 10-yard catch and run on third down. After a big defensive stop, the Friars marched once again down the field and capped off their drive with another 8-yard touchdown run from Giadolor. This touchdown gave the Friars their largest lead of the game at 28-14.
The Bobcats fought back with their rushing attack and took a 35-28 lead with only 1:40 left in the first half. Howell and the Friar offense would go on a spectacular two-minute drill that resulted in a short touchdown run from Giadolor with just two seconds left until halftime. This resulted in a 35-35 halftime score.
The second half did not produce as many fireworks for the Friars as the first half. Giadolor rushed for his fourth touchdown late in the third quarter to make it 49-41 Celina. In the fourth quarter, Celina showed why they are ranked at the
Dallas Morning News second-ranked 4A school, outscoring the Friars 28-0. The final score of 77-41 is a little deceiving as the game was much closer than the final score conveys.
Alec Salazar had himself one heck of a night for the Bishop Lynch defense. The junior safety had a career-high 19 tackles in the contest, many of which were touchdown-saving tackles. His counterpart
Walt Nevitt also had a tremendous night, recording double-digit tackles for the first time as the junior defensive back had 10.
