Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | BLHS Sports Information

Yttredahl's big second half leads to Friars' district win over TCA

ADDISON, TX -- The Bishop Lynch men's basketball team entered MCB Gym last night on a three-game losing streak and much in need of a big road victory. Behind a gritty performance from the Friars, they headed back to the white BLHS bus after the game with a 67-56 victory over Trinity Christian Academy.

RJ Yttredahl was inserted into the starting lineup last night and he upped his end of the bargain. The junior finished with a team-high 23 points and eight rebounds, scoring 19 of his 23 in the second half when the Friars needed it the most.

Other big contributors in the game were Nathan Day and Grady Norton. Day scored eight of his 12 points in the second half while Norton hit two big three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Friars pull away.

Though BL didn't shoot the ball well (39.2%) they brought in 10 offensive rebounds and forced 15 turnovers from TCA while only committing seven.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first quarter was a great back-and-forth affair between the Friars and Trojans. Devin Miller started the game hot for the Friars as the senior scored all seven of his points in the first. Joining Miller with a solid first quarter was William Schroeder who came off the bench and scored all four of his points in the first while grabbing two offensive rebounds. Behind Miller and Schroeder's 11 points, the Friars were all-square with TCA 18-18 after one.

BL only shot poorly in the second quarter where they went 3-15 from the field and 0-5 from deep. This led to a 31-27 deficit at halftime, but the reason it wasn't more significant was the Friars' solid defensive play. They held TCA to only 3-10 from the field and also forced five turnovers.

Let's just call the third quarter the RJ quarter. Yttredahl scored 14 points in the third and didn't miss a shot to do it. He went 4-4 from the field, 2-2 from three, and 4-4 from the free throw line. He also grabbed two rebounds on the defensive end. Setting up RJ on many easy buckets was Davien Taylor, who finished with a team-high five assists on the night, including two in the third quarter to go along with a timely bucket to help the Friars even up the score 48-48 after three.

In the final frame, the Friars pulled away with two big corner three-pointers from Grady Norton and going 9-12 from the free throw line. TCA couldn't keep up with the high-flying Friars and were held to just 3-10 shooting once again.
