Friars overwhelm Rice for second shutout of the season

RICE, TX --  Bishop Lynch (2-2) took care of business with a dominant 43-0 victory over Rice High School (1-3) last Friday. The Friars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, playing strong on offense and defense throughout the game.

Senior Armando Aguilera, in his first start of the season for the Friars, threw for three touchdowns and 76 yards. Aguilera capitalized on his tall weapons, connecting with Ty Bradley for two touchdowns and Ismael Muhammad for one. William Estes made the most of his three rushes on the breezy Friday night, scoring on two and finishing with 45 yards on the ground.

The Friars' defense was relentless, shutting down Rice's offense from start to finish. Linebackers Alex Finlet and William Patterson led the team with five tackles, while Drew Richardson added four, including a sack. Richardson also secured his first career interception after a deflected pass by Weston Pomykal and contributed a blocked punt.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

1ST QUARTER | The Friars' defense forced a three-and-out on Rice's opening possession, and the offense quickly capitalized. Estes capped off a four-play, 39-yard drive with his fifth rushing touchdown of the season.

After Richardson's blocked punt, Aguilera found Bradley for a two-yard touchdown pass. The Friars closed out the first quarter with a beautiful 12-yard touchdown strike from Aguilera to Muhammad, making it 21-0 after one.

2ND QUARTER |  Bishop Lynch continued their dominance, extending their lead to 37-0 by halftime. The scoring began with a safety after a botched Rice snap on a punt. Estes then added a 24-yard rushing touchdown, and Aguilera connected with Bradley on a 15-yard pass just before the half.

3RD QUARTER |  Despite moving the ball effectively, the Friars couldn't add to their score in the third quarter. Their best drive ended in a missed field goal, one of two on the night. The defense remained stout, shutting down all of Rice's offensive efforts.

4TH QUARTER |  The game's final points came on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Matias Leon to Muhammad, marking Muhammad's second score of the evening and sealing the 43-0 victory.
