Friars Fall in Straight Sets on the Road

PLANO —  The Bishop Lynch volleyball team battled tough but ultimately fell in three sets to John Paul II on Thursday night inside the Competition Gym, moving the Friars to 2-2 in TAPPS 6A district play.

The Friars (19-11, 2-2) were competitive throughout, holding late leads in both the second and third sets before the Cardinals rallied to complete the sweep.

Junior Kylie Love posted her fourth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 12 digs, while junior Maia Raleigh tallied 23 assists and two aces, extending her ace streak to 10 consecutive matches.

John Paul II jumped out to early advantages in each of the first two sets, controlling much of the tempo. The Friars nearly flipped momentum in set two, using a mid-set surge powered by Love's five kills to take a brief 19-17 lead before the Cardinals closed on an 8-3 run to win 25-22.

Bishop Lynch showed resilience in the third set, storming back from a 12-6 deficit with a dominant 16-2 run to take a commanding 22-14 lead. But a late stretch of errors and clutch play from the Cardinals allowed JPII to escape with a 27-25 victory.

The Friars return home on Tuesday, Oct. 14, for a busy evening in the Competition Gym when they host Ursuline Academy. Bishop Lynch will honor the Class of 2026 with a Senior Night Ceremony before the match, which also coincides with Future Friar Night.
