Volleyball’s Senior Night Spoiled in Five-Set Thriller

DALLAS – The Bishop Lynch volleyball team fell in a five-set thriller to Ursuline Academy on Tuesday night inside the Competition Gym, moving the Friars to 2-3 in TAPPS district play.

Not only was it Bishop Lynch's annual Future Friar Night, but it was also Senior Night for the volleyball program. Before the match, the team and athletic department honored the five outstanding seniors from the Class of 2026 — Lexi Bevers, Maddie Sue Pflum, Katie Rebuck, Maya Saad, and Braunwyn Stevens — for their dedication and impact on the program.

Juniors Camila Figueroa and Kylie Love led the Friars, each recording double-doubles with 11 kills apiece. Love added 13 digs, while Figueroa tallied 10. Maia Raleigh continued her strong play at setter, finishing with 35 assists — her fifth consecutive match with 23 or more.

The visiting Bears started the night strong, jumping out to a 6-0 lead before the Friars were forced to call a timeout. Bishop Lynch was never able to recover from Ursuline's hot start, as the Bears hit .265 to the Friars' .129 to take the opening set, 25-14.

The Friars responded in the second set behind Love's five kills and four digs, as well as Maddie Sue Pflum's four blocks. As a team, Bishop Lynch hit a match-best .263 to even things up at one set apiece with a 25-22 win.

Despite the momentum shifting to the Black and White, Ursuline came out firing in the third set, recording 17 kills to the Friars' five while hitting .433 to take the set 25-21 and regain the lead.

Facing elimination, Bishop Lynch came out energized in the fourth set, jumping to a 4-0 lead and extending it to 17-9. Figueroa's five kills and five digs fueled the effort, along with Emory Mooney's and Love's three kills each. The Friars closed strong to win the fourth set 25-18 and force a decisive fifth.

In the final set, Bishop Lynch started quickly once again, going up 3-0. However, Ursuline responded with a six-point run to take a 12-7 lead. The Friars mounted a late push but fell just short, 15-12, as the Bears completed the 3-2 win.
