Bishop Lynch Dominates Nolan Catholic in Historic 55–3 Homecoming Win

| By:
DALLAS – The Bishop Lynch football team put together a performance for the record books on Homecoming night, defeating longtime rival Nolan Catholic 55–3 at Roffino Stadium. The 52-point margin of victory marks the largest in the 66-game history between the two programs, dating back to 1964.

The Viking defense had no answer for the Friars' explosive offense. Freshman phenom Zack Williams continued his breakout season, notching his third straight game with at least two touchdowns. He caught six passes for 152 yards and two scores and added a rushing touchdown for good measure.

Ethan Perkins made the most of his limited touches, turning just three receptions into 160 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Ishmael Muhammad added seven catches for 97 yards and a touchdown, while Matias Leon had a career night at quarterback—throwing for a personal-best 423 yards and five touchdowns on 18-of-23 passing.

Defensively, Bishop Lynch was just as dominant, holding Nolan Catholic to a season-low three points. Junior linebacker Mason Schopfer recorded two sacks, bringing his career total to three—all against the Vikings. Willy Patterson and Alex Finley anchored the Friar defense with five tackles apiece, while the rest of the team came up big with a season-high three interceptions. Hunter Hudson and Nick Payne each snagged one in the second quarter, and Adan Fernandez added another in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Friars struck first when Leon connected with Muhammad on a 23-yard touchdown over the middle, giving Bishop Lynch a 7–0 lead they would never relinquish. Despite the early score, that would be the only points of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Friars explode offensively. Akani Cruz Berrios opened the frame with a 45-yard touchdown run, the first of his two on the night. He finished with 175 yards on 19 carries.

After both teams traded interceptions, Williams made one of the highlights of the season—catching a tipped pass before weaving through six Viking defenders on his way to a 38-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 20–0 with just over two minutes remaining in the half.

Nolan Catholic got on the board with a late field goal, but the Friars answered quickly. With under a minute to play, Perkins turned a short screen pass into a 60-yard touchdown, sending Bishop Lynch into halftime with a commanding 27–3 lead.

The Friars picked up right where they left off in the third. Perkins again took a screen pass to the house—this time for 83 yards—making it 34–3. The defense followed with a quick three-and-out, and the offense capitalized as Williams punched in a 9-yard rushing score. Cruz Berrios closed the quarter with another 9-yard touchdown run, stretching the lead to 48–3.

With the running clock in effect during the fourth quarter, the Friars put the finishing touch on a historic night when Leon hit Williams in stride for a 62-yard touchdown, sealing the 55–3 final.
