Friars Win Thrilling Five-Setter in Frisco, Secure 20th Victory of the Season

FRISCO, Texas – The Bishop Lynch volleyball team notched its 20th win of the season on Tuesday night with an exciting come-from-behind five-set victory over Legacy Christian Academy at the LCA North Campus Gym. The Friars showed impressive resilience, bouncing back after two straight five-set losses to Ursuline and Prestonwood last week.

Bishop Lynch 3, Legacy Christian 2 (25-12, 20-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-10)

The Friars came out firing in the opening set, racing to a 10-3 lead before forcing an early Legacy timeout. The break did little to slow the Black and White, as Bishop Lynch dominated the remainder of the set for a 25-12 win. Charlie Wells led the way with four kills, while the Friars hit an impressive .360 as a team.

The next two sets saw the Eagles respond, keeping the Friars off balance with steady offense and strong serving. Bishop Lynch struggled to find rhythm, hitting .141 across the two frames while committing five service errors and five reception miscues. Legacy took both sets—25-21 and 25-20—to grab a 2–1 match lead.

With their backs against the wall, the Friars regrouped and delivered under pressure in the fourth. Trailing 21-19, Bishop Lynch rattled off six straight points to take the set 25-21 and force a decisive fifth. The comeback run included kills from Kylie Love and Emory Mooney, a block from Mooney and Maddie Sue Pflum, and an ace from Katie Rebuck. Rebuck then set up Love for her 10th kill before an Eagle attack error sealed the set for the Friars.

In the winner-take-all fifth set, Love stayed red-hot, hammering home six kills to lead the Friars to a 15-10 clinching win. Camila Figueroa added three kills in the final frame as Bishop Lynch finished strong to secure the 3–2 victory on the road.

TEAM QUOTES

Senior Libero Katie Rebuck on what it took to secure the 20th win in a hard-fought five-set match...

"
A positive attitude made all the difference. After winning the first set easily, then dropping the next two, it took real grit not to give up. Fifth sets are mentally tough, and since our past ones hadn't gone our way, staying positive helped us turn things around."

Junior Bay Corrigan on learning from last week's five-set losses...

"We definitely wanted the fifth-set win even more, knowing we had struggled in the same situation last week. I'm very proud of how we played together and learned from our past mistakes!"

NEXT UP
The Friars will close out their regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 28, when they host John Paul II inside the Bishop Lynch Competition Gym. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
