Women Win Championship, Men Grab Bronze at Prep State

| By:
DALLAS, Texas  —  It was a day to remember for Bishop Lynch wrestling as the women took home the Prep State Championship while the men finished in third place. In total, 14 wrestlers qualified for the prestigious Prep Nationals, which will take place at Lehigh University beginning Feb. 28.

The women dominated the competition, with nine of their 10 wrestlers finishing first or second. Sofia Jandres, Vivian Mulenex, Violet Libson, Emma Mullman, Jocelyn Walker, and Maddie Diaz all earned gold in their weight classes. Lizzy Lara, Esperanza Greer, and Summer Collier-O'Neal finished as runners-up in their weight classes. These top finishes not only earned valuable points to win the state prep title, but also secured spots at Prep Nationals later this month.

On the men's side, the team battled all afternoon to earn a respectable third-place finish. Walker Walls and Maddox Preskitt both won their weight classes, earning top points to lead the Friars. But without the efforts of Kane Preskitt, Coleman Gieselman, and JP Termulo, the Friars would not have made the podium as a team.

Kane Preskitt fought his way to the championship bout, where he fell but earned a second-place finish. Both Gieselman and Termulo battled in the stressful third-place match, each walking away with bronze. With their top-three finishes, the men also secured spots at Prep Nationals.

NEXT UP:
The Bishop Lynch men will compete for the TAPPS State Championship this upcoming Saturday, Feb. 15, in Bishop Lynch High School's Competition Gym.
