Bishop Lynch Women’s Swim Team Captures North Regional Championship

MANSFIELD, Texas – The Bishop Lynch women's swim team claimed the North Regional Championship last Friday in a thrilling battle with Ursuline Academy while the men's team finished sixth despite competing with only three swimmers.

The women's championship came down to the final event—the 400-yard freestyle relay—with the winner securing the regional title. The relay team of Caroline Hays, Carolina Girard, Ella Whitney, and Grier Beeson not only won the race but dominated, finishing more than half a pool length ahead of the competition to bring home another trophy for the Friars.

Freshman Grier Beeson (16 points), freshman Caroline Hays (15), and sophomore Ella Whitney (15) led the way as the team's top scorers. They will be joined at the state meet by seven additional qualifiers: Ema Barron, Caroline Ellis, Carolina Girard, Evie Leu, Ella Nichols, Penelope Peck, and Emily Schwabe.

On the men's side, sophomores Rush Trent, Holt Harmon, and Liam Gallaher each secured spots at the state championship, with all three qualifying for two events. Trent finished second in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 backstroke. Harmon placed third in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 200 freestyle. Gallaher took fifth in the 500 freestyle and eighth in the 100 freestyle.

In total, 14 of the Friars' 19 swimmers achieved personal-best times, and 13 will advance to the state meet.

The Friars will compete in the TAPPS State Championship on Feb. 12 at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
