Herrmann, Friars walk off Cardinals in extras to complete the sweep

DALLAS, Texas -- Noah Herrmann already had a great night at the plate when he stepped up to bat in the eighth inning. With a runner on third, Herrmann hit a single to left field to bring home Elliot Brown and give the Friars the 8-7 come-from-behind victory over John Paul II.

The Friars were looking at a series split headed into the final frame down 7-5. But a great rally that was started by a single from Herrmann led to the Friars forcing extra innings for the second time in three games.

In the top of the eighth inning, momentum stayed in favor of the Friars with a big defensive play set up from third baseman Jack Bacsik. After the leadoff walk from the Cardinals, the double-play shut down their chance at a run and set up the Friars to win it in their half of the inning.

Sebastian Vasquez continued his hot streak with a 3-for-3 night that included three RBIs and two runs scored. The senior leads the team with a .433 batting average, including a .474 clip during district play. He also kept the Friars in the game on the mound, earning the win after coming in for relief after four innings. He shut out the Cardinals, giving up two hits and striking out three.

The Friars take the diamond again tonight, March 25. They head to Frisco once again to take on Legacy Christian at 7 p.m.
