Alcala’s Career Night Lifts Friars Past Cardinals

DALLAS — The Bishop Lynch baseball team opened its series against John Paul II with a 3-1 victory Tuesday night at McIngvale Field, powered by a dominant two-way performance from senior Julian Alcala.

Alcala delivered a career night, striking out 13 in a complete-game effort while going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, double, and two RBIs.

The Friars (13-11-1, 2-2) bounced back in a big way after last week's series against Prestonwood, winning a tightly contested pitchers' duel that featured just four total runs and eight combined hits.

Alcala got Bishop Lynch on the board early, launching a line-drive solo home run to left field in the first inning. The blast marked his first home run of the season and the Friars' first of the year.

He came through again in the sixth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie with an RBI double to right field that scored Noah Herrmann and proved to be the game-winning run. Later in the inning, Parks Belknap added an insurance run with an RBI single to bring home Alcala.

Despite limited production at the plate, the Friars played clean, efficient baseball defensively, committing zero errors for just the third time this season while backing Alcala's dominant outing on the mound.
