In Game Full of Drama, Friars Deliver When Matters Most

DALLAS – Behind clutch pitching and timely at-bats, Bishop Lynch picked up a hard-fought 3-1 playoff win over Nolan Catholic on Tuesday night at McIngvale Field.

Despite not having their sharpest stuff, the Friar pitching staff found ways to compete, combining for 10 strikeouts while working around nine walks to keep Nolan Catholic in check. Senior Will Heatly got the start and battled through 3.1 innings, allowing just one unearned run on one hit while striking out four. John Medaris provided key relief work, and Sam Elrich came in to slam the door and earn the save.

Time and again, Bishop Lynch's pitchers stepped up in high-leverage moments, escaping three bases-loaded situations to protect the lead.

The first came in the second inning, when Heatly issued a walk to load the bases but responded with a huge strikeout to end the threat. In the fourth, Medaris induced a groundout to strand three more Vikings. Then in the fifth, Elrich calmly retired the final two batters with a lineout and a strikeout to defuse Nolan's last serious push.

The Friars struck early, scoring in the bottom of the first on RBI singles from Luke Sokolovic and Jake Rodriguez. In the third, BL added another run on a bases-loaded walk by Jack Carpenter to stretch the lead to 3-1, all the offense they would need.

Elrich put a stamp on the win by striking out the side in the top of the seventh, securing a spot in the TAPPS Division I Regionals.

Milstones Reached:
Sam Elrich threw his 150th career strikeout while Luke Sokolovic scored his 100th career run. 

Next Up:
The Friars will travel to Argyle to take on Liberty Christian on Monday, May 5th. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
