GRAPEVINE — The Bishop Lynch volleyball team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2026 season on a high note, winning its final three matches at the Grapevine Volleyfest to finish 4-3 overall. The Friars picked up victories over Lovejoy and John Paul II on the final day to build momentum heading into the second week of the season.
Throughout the three-day tournament, several Friars reached career milestones. Senior setter Maia Raleigh recorded her 1,500th career assist in the opening match against Coppell, while senior outside hitter Kylie Love reached 500 career kills in the victory over Grapevine.

DAY ONE
Bishop Lynch vs. Coppell
The Friars opened the tournament against Coppell, one of the top 6A programs in the state. Bishop Lynch struggled to find its rhythm offensively and fell 2-0, but quickly bounced back in its second match of the day.
Bishop Lynch vs. Grapevine
Facing the hometown Grapevine Mustangs, the Friars responded with one of their strongest performances of the tournament. Bishop Lynch swept the Mustangs to even its tournament record at 1-1 and close the opening day on a positive note.
DAY TWO
Bishop Lynch vs. Southlake Carroll
The second day began with a challenging matchup against defending 6A-II state champion Southlake Carroll. The Friars battled to force a third set and held a lead midway through the deciding frame before ultimately falling to the Dragons, 2-1.
Bishop Lynch vs. Hebron
Bishop Lynch immediately returned to the court against Hebron following the hard-fought match with Southlake Carroll. The Friars battled throughout both sets but ultimately fell to the Hawks, 25-23, 25-22.
Bishop Lynch vs. Mount St. Mary's
The Friars closed the second day with a strong performance against Mount St. Mary's from Oklahoma City. Bishop Lynch swept the Rockets to finish the day 1-2 and carry some momentum into the tournament's final day.
DAY THREE
Bishop Lynch vs. Lovejoy
Riding the momentum from Friday's final match, the Friars opened the final day with a three-set thriller against Lovejoy. Bishop Lynch captured the opening set before the Leopards evened the match in the second. The Friars responded in the deciding set, earning a 2-1 comeback victory.
Bishop Lynch vs. John Paul II
The final match of the tournament provided an early preview of TAPPS District II play as the Friars faced John Paul II. The two teams battled throughout the match, but Bishop Lynch controlled the action and swept the Cardinals, 2-0, to finish the Grapevine Volleyfest with three consecutive victories and a 4-3 overall record.
NEXT UP
The Friars return to action Tuesday, Aug. 18, for the annual Battle of Peavy against Bryan Adams. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. Bishop Lynch will then compete in the Texas Open in Allen on Aug. 21-22, one of the state's premier volleyball tournaments.
