HOUSTON -- The women's soccer team traveled down to Houston to play in two friendlies against St. John's School and Episcopal School earlier this week. The Friars split the games defeating St. John's 2-1 and losing to Episcopal 2-1.
In the St. John's game, the score was tied 0-0 at halftime. The Friars came out strong in the second half and created many chances but couldn't find the back of the net until
Alyx Beard found
Bella Alamo running the 18-yard box and the sophomore forward was able to sneak it past the keeper to put the Friars up 1-0.
St. John's equalized the game later in the second half to make it 1-1 with under 10-minutes to go. The Friars were able to draw a penalty right outside the 18-yard box, and Beard, who had an amazingÂ
free-kick goal against HSAA, lined up behind the ball fully expecting to put this one in the back of the next as well. That is exactly what the senior did, giving the Friars a 2-1 lead late in the game. The black and white would hold on for the 2-1 victory.
The very next day, the Friars played against the Episcopal School of Houston. Much like the St. John's game,
Bella Alamo put one past the keeper for her third goal of the season. The Friars would ultimately drop the match 2-1 against a very competitive squad.
