Semifinals Preview: Bishop Lynch vs. Ursuline

DALLAS, Texas — To be the best, you have to beat the best. That is the challenge ahead for the Bishop Lynch women's soccer team as it faces defending state champion Ursuline Academy in the TAPPS Division I semifinals Tuesday morning.

Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Sports Complex in Round Rock, Texas. The game will be livestreamed on TAPPS TV, and tickets are available for purchase online.

The Friars and Bears have met twice this season, with Ursuline winning both matchups. The Bears defeated Bishop Lynch 3-0 at home on Jan. 13 and edged out the Friars 2-1 in a competitive match at Roffino Stadium on Jan. 30.

Bishop Lynch at a Glance 

The Friars punched their ticket to the state tournament for the third consecutive year with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Parish Episcopal. The win provided a crucial test for Bishop Lynch as it prepares for the high-stakes showdown against Ursuline.

The Friar defense, led by Iyana Axson, conceded its first goal since its last meeting with Ursuline but delivered a strong performance against Parish. A top-tier defensive effort will be essential for Bishop Lynch to pull off the upset Tuesday morning.

Ursuline Academy at a Glance 

Ursuline has been dominant all season, posting a 22-2-1 record, including a perfect 8-0 mark in district play. The Bears cruised through the early playoff rounds, defeating Liberty Christian 13-0 in the area round and John Paul II 5-0 in the regional round.

As the defending state champions, Ursuline enters the semifinals as the heavy favorite and may be facing its toughest remaining test against the Friars. The Bears have not lost since Jan. 16 against Midlothian High School, and their closest match since then was the 2-1 victory over Bishop Lynch.
