ARGYLE -- After starting district play with a big road win against Prestonwood Christian last week (
read here), women's basketball hit the road again last Friday to take on familiar non-district opponent Liberty Christian.
Behind the Friars' big three of
Natalie Cardenas,
Maddie Heiss and
Ellery Sample, the Friars defeated the Warriors 54-51. Combined, these three scored 46 of our 54 points on a 56.5 effective field goal percentage. They continue to play at a high level every single game.
Cardenas finished with a game-high 17 points and four assists. Heiss had 14 points, three assists and three steals, while Sample had her third double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
The Friars held a six-point leadheading into the fourth quarter when Liberty Christian started to get hot from beyond the arch. The Warriors went 4-6 from deep in the fourth quarter and were determined to comeback in the close contest. The Friars held them off with clutch free throws, going 11-13 in the fourth quarter. Heiss went 2-2, Cardenas went 2-2,
Mikah Ford went 3-4 and Sample went 4-4.
Ford played one of her better games all season. Adding to the clutch free throws, she went 2-4 with eight points, including a three-pointer. She also added one steal, one block, two assists and four rebounds.
The Friars and Warriors have met 25 times since 2007, and with Bishop Lynch's victory, they move to 15-10 against Liberty Christian.
