GARLAND -- Bishop Lynch had a big confidence-boosting win last night with a 55-45 victory over Brighter Horizons Academy to improve to 11-6 on the season. The varsity men's basketball team entered Brighter Horizons' gym last night on a five-game losing streak, most recently against St. Mark's in overtime last Saturday, and was looking to get back on track.
After the first quarter, the Friars were trailing 17-13. They did not hang their heads and fought back to take a halftime lead of 32-31. After taking the lead, they did not look back.
Cole Milkereit,
Corey Webster and
Hayden Bauer scored a combined 23 points in the first half to lead the Friars and give the black and white a one-point advantage at halftime.
The second half was all about defense. BL held Brighter Horizons to only 14 total second-half points, including only four in the third quarter. The Friars had 11 total steals which led to 15 transition points.
Offensively, the Friars shot over 50% for the first time since their win against South San Antonio on December 1st. Milkereit led the way for the Friars with 14 points, adding eight rebounds and one assist. Bauer also had a great night, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Devin Miller helped facilitate the offense as the starting guard finished with a season-high eight assists and only two turnovers. He also added four points and four steals.
