Women's basketball wins the Knights of Columbus Tournament

DALLAS -- Bishop Lynch High School once again hosted the 59th Bob Stras Dallas Classic presented by the Knights of Columbus. The women's basketball team defeated Rockwall on Saturday, December 2nd, 58-36 to claim champions over the great group of schools in the tournament.

The Friars opened up the tournament on Thursday with a 71-23 victory over Hockaday. On Friday, they continued their hard play and defeated Greenhill 64-30 to advance to the championship game where they faced Rockwall. The ladies once again showed their dominance in the championship game when they defeated Rockwall 58-36.

The Friars had four players that averaged 10+ points throughout the tournament: Maddie Heiss (13.0), Natalie Cardenas (12.0), Fre Vowels (10.7) and Ellery Sample (10.3). No shock from either Heiss or Cardenas, but with a huge 15-point outburst from Vowels in the championship game, she is starting to find her own. Sample also continues to get better and better as in the three games, she had a field goal percentage of 61%.

Heiss and Cardenas do way more than just score for the women's basketball team. Not only do they both play the most minutes, but they also play hard defense, rebound and set up teammates for easy baskets. In the Greenhill game, Heiss had a team season-high of six blocks. Cardenas on the other hand dished out six assists with zero turnovers in the semi-finals.

One of the highlights of the tournament was when senior Acya Narcisse was able to not only get to see playing time but was able to score. She has dealt with injury after injury and the senior never quit and always showed up for physical therapy.

Ellery Sample was named to the All-Tournament team while Natalie Cardenas and Maddie Heiss were all named Co-MVP's of the tournament.

Next Up:
The Friars will now refocus as they open up district play tomorrow, Tuesday, December 6th when they travel up to Plano to take on Prestonwood.
