SAN ANTONIO - To quote Head Coach Jessi Jordan, "The women seemed to use the meet event lineup as a checklist" as the Bishop Lynch women's swim team won 10 of 11 events to capture the program's first-ever state championship and Bishop Lynch High School's 100th.
Hadley Beeson won four events on her way to becoming the TAPPS Division 1 swimmer of the meet. She finished first in the 50 and 100 freestyle while her younger sister,
Abby Beeson, finished second in both those races. Hadley was also a part of the victorious 200 and 400 free relays.
Stella Todd, much like her counterpart, also won four events on Wednesday. She took home the gold in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly while being a crucial part of both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
Sophomores
Amie Perna and
Hanna Whitney stepped up in massive ways for BL. They finished first and second in the 200 IM, with Perna finishing first and Whitney finishing second. Perna also got the gold in the 100 backstroke, setting a new TAPPS and school record in the process. Whitney also rewrote the record book, setting a new school record in the 100 breaststroke on her way to gold in the event. The only Friar who could have been upset about the sophomore swims is Erin Briskie '02, who had held the 20+ year school records in the backstroke and breaststroke.
Abby Beeson, also a sophomore on the swim team, finished second in both the 50 and 100 free to her sister Hadley. Abby, along with teammates Perna, Hadley and
Ella Nichols, was on the women's 200 free relay team that broke the TAPPS and school record on its way to gold.
Sophomore
Lily Roe swam well all day, proving that early in the first event. She swam on the Friar gold 200 medley relay team. She also earned valuable points in the backstroke and 500 free.
Freshmen
Ella Nichols and
Caroline Ellis did not back down in the spotlight. Nichols was on the record-breaking 200 free relay team and swam the 100 backstroke, while Ellis scored points in the 500 free.
This result was what
Hadley Beeson and
Stella Todd have dreamed of since finishing third at state their freshman year and runners-up their sophomore and junior years. As leaders of the swim team, and two of the most decorated student-athletes in Bishop Lynch history, Beeson and Todd can now call themselves champions.
Congratulations to the student-athletes, coaches, administrators, parents and everyone else who helped the Friars capture the TAPPS state championship!
