DALLAS - Bishop Lynch football program opened up the season against 6A LD Bell last Friday in a rocking Roffino Stadium. The Raiders pulled away in the second half against the Friars to defeat Bishop Lynch 65-21.
The excitement was in the air Friday night for football season to begin. The Friars answered that excitement when they chose to get the ball to open the game. Freshman
Legend Howell got the call to start the game and led a spectacular 12-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Howell had a 15-yard scramble followed by a 29-yard completion to
Aiden McGinnis to get BL to Bell's one-yard line. The drive was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run by senior captain
Cooper Alford.
After Bell tied it up at seven, the Friars had another great 13-play, 78-yard drive for another touchdown.
JP Lacsamana would finish this drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, but the big play in the series came from a Howell pass to Alford for a 42-yard gain. Alford was Howell's top target all game as he finished with nine catches and 95 yards.
After gaining a 27-14 advantage at halftime, LD Bell pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Friars 28-7 in the third quarter. The lone second-half touchdown for the Friars came from a great run by
Godswill Giadolor, who scampered 46 yards for the touchdown. Giadolor finished the game as the Friars' leading rusher with 61 yards on six carries. Lacsamana finished with 14 carries and 49 yards.
Legend Howell finished the game going 17-26 with 219 yards in his varsity debut.
Defensively, the Friars were led by junior captain linebackers,
Colton Monroe and Derek Tinio. Monroe finished with nine tackles and Tinio with seven.
Senior kicker
Henry Nyhart converted all three of his extra-points Friday night to start off his season to perfection.
This Friday, the Friars travel up north to face off against Celina at 7:30 in Bobcat Stadium. Celina defeated Paris 45-14 last Friday to open up their season.
