DALLAS -
Alyx Beard walked up to the box with a chance to win the game in PKs for the Friars on Tuesday night under the lights in Roffino Stadium. Parish had just had their second unsuccessful penalty kick and if the senior was able to put her chance in the back of the net, the Friars were going to walk away with a victory. The senior striker did just that as she found the top right corner with her shot and the Friars won in PKs 4-2.
The Friars were excited to play in their home stadium where they hadn't played since their 3-1 victory over Prestonwood on November 29th. Though the team had performed well all year at home - 80% winning percentage - they found themselves down 1-0 at the half against Parish.
Things just weren't bouncing the Friar's way in the first half, despite them playing well. The Panthers had a fluke goal that took a big bounce over
Lily Bracken to make it 1-0 and then near the end of the half, the Friars scored on a set piece but was called offsides so it didn't count.
The second half proved to be a different story, but still not what the Friars had hoped for.
Sasha Mascarenhas earned Bishop Lynch a penalty kick with just under 18 minutes to go in the game to give the Friars a great chance to tie the game. Beard was the one called upon to take the PK and she buried in the right corner to tie the game up at 1-1.
Neither team could find a goal in the final 18 minutes and the 10 minutes of overtime so the teams headed to PKs.
Both teams were successful in their first two opportunities in the box. Mascarenhas and
Genevieve Boisbrun each were successful for the Friars. Bracken then made the play of the match when she saved the third attempt by the Panthers, giving BL the advantage.
Danielle Howard then put the Friars ahead by making her kick. After Parish missed the net on their fourth attempt Beard finished the game with her successful try.
The Friars are now 8-3, 4-1 on the season and are sitting in second place behind Ursuline Academy who is 10-1, 5-0 on the season.
