WASHINGTON D.C. -- Member of the Bishop Lynch wrestling team traveled to Prep Nationals in Washington D.C. this past weekend to compete in the Prep National Tournament. The 13 wrestlers for BL had to earn enough points throughout the season in order to be invited to Prep Nationals. BL had seven men and six women compete over the weekend.
Benny Simpson,
Lui Andres,
Daniel Ring,
Peter Humrichouse,
Walker Walls and
Maddox Preskitt all wrestled on Friday. The four seniors of Simpson, Andres, Ring and Humrichouse all went 0-2. This group of seniors had an amazing career at BL, helping the Friars win three TAPPS state championships.Â
Preskitt and Walls both did well throughout the tournament. Preskitt won his first two matches which advanced him to the quarterfinals. After winning his first bout, Walls lost his second. He bounced back and won two more before being eliminated. Both Preskitt and Walls were nearly named All-American.Â
Saturday was competition time for the women.
Esperanza Greer, Jocelyn Walker,
Ella Arthur,
Sofia Jandres, Lizzy Lara and
Audrey Miller all had great days on the mat.
Jandres was the bright spot for the Friars. She finished fourth in her class, going 2-1 on the day. In total, the ladies had five wins. Jandres had two and Miller, Greer and Walker each had one.
Congratulations to the entire wrestling program on a fantastic 2022-2023 season that saw the men win the TAPPS State Championship and the women win Prep State.
