SAN ANTONIO, TX -- The Bishop Lynch wrestling team had an almost perfect weekend in San Antonio at the Texas Prep State Championship. The women came home as champions while the men finished runners-up with their highest finish since 2017.
The women had five individuals finish first in their weight class to help them capture the state title.
Lily Shabram,
Esperanza Greer,
Gia Parziale,
Emma Mullman, and
Sofia Jandres all wrestled their way to the gold.
Lizzy Lara (2nd) and
Jocelyn Walker (3rd) each podiumed for the Friars as well.
On the men's side, Westin Walls was the only Friar to win their weight class, but multiple Friars finished in the top three.
JP Termulo (3rd), Aidan Rodriguez (3rd),
Maddox Preskitt (2nd), and
Harrison Jackson (3rd) all had great days to podium and earn BL valuable points.
Not only was finishing in the top three crucial for the meet on Saturday, but it also qualified the wrestlers for a spot in the Prep National tournament held in Pennsylvania later this month. That means that
Lily Shabram,
Esperanza Greer,
Gia Parziale,
Emma Mullman,
Sofia Jandres,
Lizzy Lara,
Jocelyn Walker,
JP Termulo, Aidan Rodriguez,
Maddox Preskitt,
Harrison Jackson, and
Walker Walls are all packing their bags for a trip to PA.
Congratulations to these 12 wrestlers and the entire wrestling program for a great weekend. Their focus will now be on the TAPPS State Championship that will be held on Saturday, February 17 at Liberty Christian.
