FRISCO -- The Bishop Lynch duo of Sidney Richardson and Lydia Fontane competed in the women's state powerlifting meet over spring break. Both Richardson and Fontane wrapped up what was a very successful season for the women's powerlifting program. Richardson finished sixth out of 184 state-wide lifters and Fontane finished 12th out of 201 state-wide lifters.

This was Richardson's last ever meet wearing the BL shield and she did not disappoint. She left everything she had on the gym floor all the way to her last lift.

If you watched any of the Valspar Championship on Sunday, Adam Schenk had a difficult shot on the final hole of the tournament. The right-handed golfer was forced to hit a left-handed shot due to a tree. Schenk, who has never won on the PGA tour before, could have declared it a penalty shot or even shot it backward to secure his second place. But he chose the most difficult option because it gave him a chance to win. He wasn't thinking about the prize money or how this left-handed shot could end up dropping him down the leaderboard, he wanted to give himself the best chance to try to win.

That is exactly what Richardson did on her last lift. She went for a medal but barely missed her lift to wind up in 6th place. She was never going to play it safe, she has worked too hard over her four years at Bishop Lynch not to try to medal at state.

Fontane, who is in her first year lifting, wrapped up her awesome rookie season with a 12th-place finish. Her weight class is one of the most competitive in the state so to wind up 12th out of 201 lifters is unbelievable for a first-time lifter.

Congratulations to Richardson and Fontane and the entire women's powerlifting program on a great season.
