ROYCE CITY, TX -- One of the fastest growing athletic programs at Bishop Lynch opened up its season last week at the Royce City Invite. Both the men's and women's powerlifting teams shined during the invite with first-place finishes and school records posted. The men finished fourth overall out of 17 teams and the women finished eight out of 14 teams.
The men were led by
Colton Monroe and
Jordan Hooks as both athletes finished first in their weight class. Monroe did so by breaking the school record in the bench press in the 181-weight class with a successful lift of 405 pounds. Hooks finished first in the super heavyweight class.
Cole Drake didn't place in the top five, but he broke the school record in the bench press in the 220-weight class with a successful lift of 325 pounds. Other top five finishers for the men's team were Aidan McGinnis (2nd),
Aaron Cisneros (5th) and
Saul Sanchez (5th).
The women also found their success in individual finishes and school records.
Lydia Fontane broke the school record in all three lifts and total weight on her way to finishing first in the 123-weight class. She had successful lifts of 295-pound squat, 160-pound bench, and 315-pound deadlift for a total weight of 770.
Abby Toscano was the only other athlete to finish in the top three on the women's side, coming in third overall.
Larkin Wall matched her fellow Friar by also breaking the school record in all three lifts and total weight in the 105-weight class. She had successful lifts of 175-pound squat, 120-pound bench, and 160-pound deadlift for a total weight of 455.

The next meet for the men will be on Saturday, January 27 as they compete in the Van Invite. The women's next meet will be on Saturday, February 1 as they compete in the Wylie Invite.
