Busy Weekend Leads to Success on the Track for Bishop Lynch

| By:
DALLAS – The Bishop Lynch track and field team competed across the state this past weekend at the prestigious Texas Relays and the Bradley V. Urshel Invitational. The Friars at the Texas Relays held their own against some of the best athletes in the country while back in Dallas at the BVU Invite, the women's team finished in second place, and the men placed ninth.

Only a select few athletes qualified for the elite two-day event in Austin. Those competitors included Iyana Axson, Ra'Nyah Lockhart-Sadler, Naomi Mangwiro, Ava Marosz, Ofure Obasuyi, Ava Sanders, Sarah Sullivan, and Zoe Turner. Sanders and Sullivan were the only two to participate in individual events (100m), while the rest combined to compete in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 relays.

On Friday, Sanders and Sullivan ran in the 100m, where Sullivan (13.00) barely edged out Sanders (13.05) to finish in 29th and 30th place, respectively. The 4x200 relay team of Obasuyi, Turner, Axson, and Lockhart-Sadler nearly broke the school record (1:44.05), clocking in at 1:44.44 to secure a 16th-place finish.

The 4x400 relay team closed out Friday with a strong performance. Obasuyi, Sanders, Mangwiro, and Marosz completed the grueling race in 4:07.72, earning a 23rd-place finish.

On Saturday, the Friars' lone race belonged to the 4x100 relay team of Sullivan, Lockhart-Sadler, Turner, and Sanders. They narrowly missed qualifying for the finals after putting together a sub-50-second race. Their time of 49.91 placed them 18th out of 50 competing schools and was just 0.72 seconds away from making the final.
