Friars Rewrite Cross Country History in Season Opener

| By:
PLANO – Dash Raya shattered the school record in the 2-mile cross country race with a time of 10:35, breaking the 22-year-old mark of 11:25.4 set by Dane Shatwell '05 in 2003. The performance came this past weekend at the Plano ISD Invitational. Harman Pope also topped the old record, finishing in 10:53 to earn the second-fastest time in school history.

Despite facing powerhouse programs such as Highland Park and Allen, both the men's and women's teams placed 13th in a competitive field featuring some of the toughest competition in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The men even edged out district rival John Paul II.

The women's team was led by freshman Emme Driscoll, who finished 28th overall in 13:29. The time marked the seventh-fastest in Bishop Lynch history and came in her career debut. Cece Degeyter (88th) and Elliott Guinnee (92nd) were the other two Friars to place in the top 100 of the 145-runner field.

Behind Raya (14th) and Pope (23rd), the men's squad had two additional runners finish in the top 100 of the 175-runner field. Pierce Oxford (91st) and Alex Malakoff (95th) each turned in strong performances to help the Friars secure 13th place.
