District Preview: Bishop Lynch Eyes TAPPS 6A Crown

| By:
DALLAS – The Bishop Lynch volleyball team (17-9) closed non-district play with a 3-0 sweep over Parish Episcopal last Thursday at Panther Gym. Their 17 wins mark the program's best start since 2022, when the Friars entered district play with 24 victories and went on to finish 33-11 as TAPPS 6A state runners-up.

Friars at a Glance

After a grueling non-district slate featuring 26 matches and three tournaments, Bishop Lynch looks to make a statement in TAPPS 6A-District 2 play. The Friars' 17-9 record includes a 4-3 mark at home, 3-0 on the road, and 10-6 on neutral courts.

The team has improved on both sides of the net this year, raising its hitting percentage by nearly .50 points and averaging almost one more dig per set compared to last season. Serving has been the most noticeable leap forward: the Friars are committing almost three fewer service errors per match, and seven players boast a serve percentage above 93% (compared to just one last year).

TAPPS 6A District 1

John Paul II High School

2025 Record: 22-9
2024 Record: 40-9, 6-2
Key Players: Bella Howard, Chloe Gerlach, Sloan Reed
Notable Win(s): Hockaday, Oakridge

The Cardinals enter district play at 22-9 after competing in the Liberty Christian Showcase. They've appeared multiple times in The Dallas Morning News Class 5A-Others list and captured the POPCS North Texas Invitational earlier this fall.

Offensively, JPII features a balanced attack with Chloe Gerlach (283 kills), Sloan Reed (224), and Bella Howard (211) all surpassing 200 kills this season. Howard is verbally committed to San Diego State, while setter Summer Hodge '26 is pledged to Lehigh, giving the Cardinals both star power and experience.

District Meetings: Oct. 9 in Plano and Oct. 28 in Dallas (regular-season finale).

Legacy Christian Academy

2025 Record: 18-4-1
2024 Record: 17-15-1, 0-6
Key Players: Dakota Richard
Notable Win(s): Ursuline Academy

The Eagles are off to an impressive 18-4-1 start, winning six of their last seven matches. After leading the team with 468 kills in 2024, Dakota Richard is again carrying the offense, averaging nearly four kills per set.

District Meetings: Oct. 2 in Dallas and Oct. 21 in Frisco.

Prestonwood Christian Academy

2025 Record: 17-4
2024 Record: 37-2, 6-0
Key Players: Taylor Clarke, Audrey Letcher
Notable Win(s): Allen, Westlake

The Lions are the reigning back-to-back-to-back TAPPS 6A state champions. While they graduated All-American Cari Spears, PCA still returns elite talent, led by Princeton commit Taylor Clarke and Southern Arkansas signee Audrey Letcher.

Currently ranked No. 3 by The Dallas Morning News and No. 28 nationally, Prestonwood remains the team to beat in the district.

District Meetings: Sept. 30 in Plano and Oct. 16 in Dallas.

Ursuline Academy

2025 Record: 8-18-1
2024 Record: 27-15, 4-2
Key Players: Dixie Gayden
Notable Win(s): None

The Bears are in a rebuilding year after graduating a strong senior class from 2024. First-year Head Coach Kacie Hengler is leaning on setter Dixie Gayden, a Charlotte verbal commit, to guide the young roster through a challenging district slate.

District Meetings: Sept. 25 at Ursuline (district opener) and Oct. 14 at Bishop Lynch (Future Friar Night).
