Murphy Delivers Twice as Friars Move to 2-0 in District Play

Box Score PLANO — The Bishop Lynch women's soccer team traveled into Cardinal territory and came away with a gritty 2–1 victory over John Paul II on Tuesday night at Athletic Stadium. Madison Murphy delivered a pair of spectacular goals to lift the Friars to 2–0 in district play for the first time since the 2022–2023 season.

Goals (Assists)
12' John Paul II
16' Bishop Lynch - Madison Murphy (Serenity Collins)
52' Bishop Lynch - Madison Murphy (Kat Williamson)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The night didn't start according to plan for the Friars, as John Paul II earned a penalty kick just 12 minutes into the match and converted to take an early 1–0 lead.

Bishop Lynch responded quickly. Less than five minutes later, Serenity Collins delivered a perfectly placed cross into the box, where Murphy rose up and headed the ball past the Cardinal keeper to level the match at 1–1. The equalizer shifted the momentum, and the teams went into halftime tied.

The decisive moment came midway through the second half. Kat Williamson found Murphy in the middle of the pitch, and the senior took a few touches before unleashing a rocket from 25 yards out that sailed over the keeper, giving the Friars a 2–1 advantage.

The final 25 minutes were a defensive showcase for Bishop Lynch. The Friars turned away every Cardinal attack, and when the final whistle sounded, they secured a hard-earned road victory in Plano.
