Friar Tennis Continues Early-Season Success

DALLAS — The Bishop Lynch tennis team continued its strong start to the season Thursday afternoon against Prestonwood Christian Academy at the Dallas Athletic Club. The men battled to a 2-2 tie with the Lions, while the women finished 1-3 on the day.

The men split both singles and doubles play. Freshman Ethan Ellman dominated the No. 1 singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Nathan Stuckey fell 3-6, 3-6 in the second singles contest.

In doubles action, Alejandro Kolster Passos and Henry Sullivan delivered a double bagel, winning 6-0, 6-0. Saoirse Langford and Christian Williamson competed in the match of the day but narrowly fell 7-5, 1-6, 8-10 in a tightly contested tiebreak.

On the women's side, Alex Gardsbane continued her stellar senior season, remaining undefeated with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Katherine Ramirez dropped the second singles match 1-6, 1-6 but later earned a 6-4 victory in an exhibition set following the official match.

In women's doubles, Ryan McGonigle and Ava Castanon fell 1-6, 0-6, while Tate Pomykal and Veronica Athas battled throughout a 3-6, 4-6 defeat.

Friar tennis travels north to Frisco for its first matchup against Legacy Christian Academy on Tuesday, February 24, at Stonebriar Country Club. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
