Ellman Reaches Semifinals as Friars Conclude Strong State Run

WACO — The Bishop Lynch tennis team competed at the TAPPS 6A State Championship on Monday and Tuesday, wrapping up an outstanding 2025–26 season. The Friars' run concluded when freshman Ethan Ellman fell in the men's singles semifinals following a standout debut campaign.

Bishop Lynch sent seven athletes to the state tournament, including three singles competitors, one doubles team, and one mixed doubles pairing. Ellman and Cole Krueger competed in the men's singles draw, while Alex Gardsbane represented the Friars in women's singles. The doubles team of Christian Williamson and Saoirse Langford competed in men's doubles, and Katherine Ramirez paired with Alejandro Kolster Passos in mixed doubles.

The Friars faced tough opening-round matchups, with Ellman as the only athlete to advance. He opened with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sebastian Herrera of Cathedral High School to move into the quarterfinals. Gardsbane closed out a strong career in black and white, falling 6-4, 6-3 in a hard-fought match against Paige McCullum of St. Pius X.

In the quarterfinals, Ellman delivered another straight-set win, defeating Andrew Boecking of St. Dominic Savio. The freshman took the opening set 6-2 before closing out a competitive second set 6-4 to punch his ticket to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Ellman faced No. 2 seed Roger Shen of The Village School. The freshman battled but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-1, ending a remarkable season run at the state level.

Overall, the men's tennis team finished in 4th, while the women's team finished in 13th.
