ABILENE – After a pair of lopsided contests to start the playoffs, the Lady Friars finally ran into some tough opposition.
Bishop Lynch handled it pretty well, overcoming a slow start Friday to put away a good Antonian Prep squad and advance to tomorrow's TAPPS 6A state championship game at McMurry University.
The Lady Friars (32-4) will face a familiar foe in district counterpart Parish Episcopal (30-5), which got by Prestonwood Christian in the other semifinal, 52-49 in overtime.
Sophomores Nyah Green and Endyia Rogers paced the Lady Friars against Antonian, which ends its season with a 29-10 record. Green pumped in 21 points and Rogers added 18 to lead the way. Gabby Rogers added eight.
The Lady Apaches led by two after the opening period but fell apart in the second as Bishop Lynch built a 26-21 lead at the break. The Lady Friars held onto that lead until the end, outscoring Antonian in each of the final two periods.
Bishop Lynch extended its current win streak to 13 games and will appear in the championship game for the first time since 2012. The Lady Friars' last title came in 2010.
