Bishop Lynch High School has named Brandon Moats as the school's new head football coach. Coach Moats has served as interim head football coach since December 2020, and he has been the head coach for Bishop Lynch's freshman team for 10 years.
Coach Moats' promotion comes at the culmination of a robust head football coach search that drew more than 100 qualified applicants from across the country.
"Throughout the head football coach search process, it became abundantly clear that Coach Moats' servant leadership and mission-aligned perspective far exceeded any other candidate," said BL President Chris Rebuck.
"Coach Moats has shown incredible leadership during his tenure at Bishop Lynch, and especially in his time as interim head football coach. The decision to promote from within was supported by Coach Moats' deep connection to our school and his clear vision for the future success of the football program at Bishop Lynch," said Rebuck.
In Coach Moats' appointment, BL Athletic Director Allie Tennyson noted Moats' proven player development, infectious enthusiasm for both the game of football and his players and coaches, the respect he has garnered among college coaches and recruiters, and his ability to build positive relationships inside and outside the school.
"Coach Moats has both ends of the player experience covered from his uncanny ability to identify, evaluate and grow student-athletes and then perfectly position our Friar student-athletes interested in pursuing collegiate football opportunities," said Tennyson.
BL Friar football standout Rawleigh "RJ" Williams III, Class of 2015, credits Coach Moats with preparing him for his collegiate football career at the University of Arkansas. Williams still holds the Bishop Lynch single season school record for rushing with 2,814 yards and 37 touchdowns.
"Coach Moats is without a doubt in my mind the perfect man for the job. He's been a part of the Bishop Lynch community for a decade and understands what it takes to create a winning culture. We have continued to have a close relationship since my freshman year at BL and I know that he will be a winner on the field and a very positive influence on each of his players for years to come!" said Williams.
BL Principal Dr. Chad Riley is also enthusiastic about the future of Bishop Lynch's football program under Coach Moats' leadership, noting Coach Moats' offseason work with 7-on-7 spring football and his current relationships with Bishop Lynch's partner schools.
"In evaluating Coach Moats' candidacy over the other top coaching contenders, it was clear that Coach Moats is the right person to build on Bishop Lynch's tradition of excellence while charting a path for needed change and growth," said Dr. Riley.
"His football knowledge, Friar pride and continuation of faith-based player development programs like the University of Notre Dame's "Play Like a Champion Today" will ensure an amazing formational experience for our student-athletes."
Bishop Lynch High School will hold a series of Meet the Coach events after BL's spring break March 15-19.
