DALLAS -- The Bishop Lynch women's soccer team opened up district play against Prestonwood Christian Academy last night and defeated the Lions 3-1. It had been 12 days since we last saw the Friars, but they didn't show any rust under the lights in Roffino.
Rowan Myers started the scoring with an absolute missile of a goal from 30 yards out (
watch here). This was Myers' third goal of the season and was a great way to set the tone in the district opener.Â
The Friars were the more dominant team in the first half, but with a late equalizer by Prestonwood right before that the half, the scoreboard did not reflect BL's first-half performance.
In the second half, the Friars came out with something to prove.
Katie Visintainer would get the lead back for the black and white with her third goal of the season, set up by a great pass from
Bella Alamo.
The Friars' defense stood strong throughout the second half, not giving Prestonwood many great looks at the net. When Prestonwood was able to get a shot on goal,
Lily Bracken was there to make the save. Bracken finished with three saves in the match.
With just over four minutes to go, the Friars added an insurance goal when Sasha
Mascarenhas scored her third goal of the season to make it 3-1 Bishop Lynch.
Alicia Gonzalez had the assist on the goal.
Sub-Varsity
The ladies defeated Prestonwood 4-1 last night to improve to 4-0-1 on the season.
Next Up:
The Friars will continue district play next week when they travel to Fort Worth to take on Nolan Catholic.
