ARGYLE -- The Bishop Lynch women's soccer team has high hopes for their 2022-23 soccer season. With many returning players and new incoming talent, the recipe for success is there and it was shown in their season opener. The Friars defeated Liberty Christian 7-0 on Thursday evening to begin their season with a splash.
Not only did they score seven goals, but seven different student-athletes found the back of the net.
Alyx Beard,
Genevieve Boisbrun,
Bella Alamo,
Rowan Myers,
Katie Visintainer,
Madison Murphy and
Sasha Mascarenhas all got one past the keeper to score their first goals of the season.
The Friars started out methodically, feeling out their team and strategy which resulted in a 1-0 advantage at the half. But after getting a half under their belts, they turned it on in the second half to pour in six goals.
The offense wasn't the only bright spot for the Friars as the defense and goalkeeping did an outstanding job all night to suffocate the Lady Warrior offense.
Lily Bracken started as the goalie for the black and white and played great in the box the entire match.
Coach
Michael Dawdy has been stressing practice all year and the team realized in the first match how it paid off.
"The win tonight is a testament to our offseason focus to prepare ourselves to train and practice like champions, with the understanding that champions are built not born. Tonight's win is a great start to our season and only one step of many ahead to achieving our end goal," said Coach Dawdy after the game.
Sub-Varsity:
The junior varsity squad put on a clinic against Liberty Christian, winning 10-0.
