HILLSBORO -- The powerlifting team has started the season with a splash as both the men and women competed in the Hillsboro Invite this past weekend.

Colton Monroe stole the headlines with his day. Monroe not only rewrote the entire Bishop Lynch Powerlifting record book, but he also finished first in his weight class.  The junior broke the school record for bench (345 lbs), squat (620 lbs), deadlift (555 lbs) and total weight (1,520 lbs) on his way to first place. He beat the second-place finisher by a whopping 370 lbs.

Monroe rightfully took the headlines, but he wasn't the only Friar to get first in their weight class. Jordan Hooks once again took the gold for the men while Lydia Fontane finished first in her weight class. Fontane lifted a total weight of 710 pounds, an improvement of 25 pounds from her first-place finish at the Royse City meet.

Fresh off finishing first in the first meet of the season, Sidney Richardson followed that up with a second-place finish.

Larkin Wall and Abby Toscano both finished fifth in their weight class to help the women finish sixth overall. Robert Parsons and Gabe Weinstein both finished fourth while Jaxson Tran and Landon Reyes each finished fifth to help the men finish fifth place overall.

The next meet for the men's team will be the Jesuit Invite on Wednesday, February 1st.

The next meet for the women's team will be the Wylie Invite on Thursday, February 2nd.
