MESQUITE, TX -- The Bishop Lynch baseball team continues its blazing start to the season with another 4-0 performance in the Mesquite Tournament last week. The Friars not only went 4-0 but defeated some big UIL schools and outscored their opponents 38-9.
BL is winning games with both their pitching and their hitting so far this season and that did not change in the Mesquite Tournament. They opened up the tournament with a crushing 13-5 victory over Episcopal School of Dallas. The Friars had a seven-run bottom of the fourth to make it a shortened game.
Grayson Wise led the team with four RBIs in the game, including a bases-loaded triple.Ten of the 13 runs scored were RBIs.
The second game was against Farmersville and was a complete 180 from the first game. The Friar bats weren't as hot in this game as they only managed to get one hit. This game was won because of the arm of
Sam Elrich on the mound. He pitched a glorious 7.0 inning complete game, surrendering zero runs on five hits.
Will Maya's fielder choice in the top of the seventh was just enough for BL to win 1-0.
Friday's games were against North Mesquite and South Garland. The Friars took care of business in both games, defeating North Mesquite 7-0 and South Garland 17-4.
Senior
Brandon Bertsch took the mound against North Mesquite and threw 5.0 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts to improve to 4-0 on the year. In the South Garland game, the Friars showed patience at the plate. They had 10 walks and five hits to win the short three-inning game.
NEXT UP:
Bishop Lynch's scheduled game for tomorrow, February 28th against the Mansfield Knights has been canceled. Their next games will be in the Austin Tournament this Thursday-Saturday.
