Friars complete season sweep over Parish

DALLAS -- The Bishop Lynch women's basketball team defeated Parish Episcopal 56-49 on Tuesday to move to 9-1 in district play. The Friars had four players score in double-digits, the most all year - Natalie Cardenas (15), Ellery Sample (12), Maddie Heiss (11) and Mikah Ford (11)

Ellery Sample wanted to show up in a big way for her senior teammates and the junior did just that. She had a big presence on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court. All 12 of Sample's points were in the paint and she also grabbed nine rebounds, narrowly missing out on another double-double. She also had two blocks in the contest to extend her team lead with 27 blocks on the year.

The Friars closed out the game with clutch free-throw shooting, going 12-12 in the fourth quarter. Maddie Heiss went 6-6, Natalie Cardenas went 4-4 and Mikah Ford went 2-2. Ford played aggressively in all 17 minutes she played, which led to the most points she has scored in a district game all year. The junior also added three steals and four assists.

The Friars were also celebrating the Class of 2023 as this game was their senior night. Senior players Natalie Cardenas, Bella Piccioni, Maddie Heiss, Meredith Morel, Acya Narcisse and Ema Dunckova, and managers Nicole Liwang, Lilli Poff, Ellie Riley, Suzanna Durham and Emily Hernandez.

Bishop Lynch held a ceremony for the seniors before the game where they were honored with their families. They have all accomplished so much as student-athletes at BL.
