DALLAS -- The Bishop Lynch baseball program is having one of their best seasons in BLHS history as they wrapped up non-district play with a record of 20-3. Over spring break, BL went 3-0 with a win over Greenhill and two wins over Texas Home Educators Sports Association.
All three games came at McIngvale Field to improve the Friars' home record to 4-0. They defeated Greenhill 7-3 (3/10), THESA 6-4 (3/14) and THESA 9-6 (3/17).
The Friars have proven that they can win games by their pitching, hitting, defense and a combination of all three. That can be proven by the three games they had over the break.
In the game against Greenhill, the Friars' pitchers combined for six scoreless innings and 11 strikeouts.
Brandon Bertsch threw four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts to earn his sixth win of the season. Bertsch now has 55 strikeouts in just 32.1 innings pitched on the season.
In the first game against THESA on the 14th, the Friars held onto their lead with great defensive plays late in the game. None was bigger than the 6-4-3 double play in the top of the sixth by
Xavier Perdomo,
Grayson Wise and
Sam Elrich to get the Friars out of the inning and eventually the victory.
In the second game against THESA, the Friars found themselves in a big hole after the top of the first when they gave up five runs. What did the Friars do to respond? Well, they put up four in the bottom of the first to make the deficit only one run. The bats continued to stay hot and the Friars scored three in the bottom of the sixth to win 9-6, with six different hitters recording an RBI.
As district play starts tomorrow at Parish Episcopal, the baseball team is firing on all cylinders and has shown they can win in multiple ways. This will be big going forward as the TAPPS Division 1-District 1 is loaded with great teams.
