DALLAS, TX -- The baseball team has had nothing but good news for what feels like two months now, and on Tuesday night that came to an end when they dropped their first district game of the season 3-1 to TCA - their first loss since March 3rd. The Friars are now 23-4, 2-1 on the season.
The Friars did their best to rally back in the ninth when
Josh Thornhill had an RBI single and BL had the tying runs on base with two outs. Elrich's fly out to right field ended the tough game between two great teams. Thornhill was the only Friar who got a hit, as the senior finished 2-3 with an RBI.
Bishop Lynch's
Brandon Bertsch got the start on the mound for the Friars. The southpaw threw a complete game despite not having his best stuff. I use the term "best stuff" lightly as the lefty threw a complete game allowing seven hits and striking out seven. He gave up three runs with only one run being earned.
One of the biggest examples of the 'Law of Averages' is baseball, more specifically baseball batting averages. This is by no means trying to downplay our baseball team, but a game like last night where the team only had two hits was due. The team had been batting .331 as a team entering the game against TCA last night.
This is where you also have to tip your hat to the Trojans. Their starting pitcher Heflin had a great game on the mound. The defense behind him had an equally as good or even better game as well. The Friars only struck out once as a team, meaning they put a lot of balls in play they just weren't finding the holes.
The good news is baseball will get a chance to even up the weekly series on Friday when we take on the Trojans at their place.
NEXT UP:
The Friars will travel to Addison to take on TCA. The first pitch will be approximately at 4:30 so prepare to get there early.
