Friars back on track after sweeping the Vikings last week

DALLAS, TX -- The Bishop Lynch baseball program had a huge week last week, defeating Nolan Catholic 5-3 in Fort Worth and 7-2 at McIngvale Field. The two wins improved their record to 26-7, 4-4 on the season.

The first game of the weekly series last Tuesday in Fort Worth was an all-time performance from the Friars' ace Brandon Bertsch. The senior southpaw threw a complete game one-hitter, striking out nine to earn his eighth win of the season. The big play of the game though was a pinch-hit bases-clearing single by Will Maya in the top of the sixth to give BL a 5-3 advantage. Bertsch then retired six of the last seven Vikings to close out the game and give the Friars the road victory.

In the game Friday night at The Mack, Sam Elrich not only had a great day on the mound earning his sixth win, but he helped himself with a great day at the plate. The sophomore went 4.2 innings, striking out seven Vikings and only giving up one non-earned run. At the plate, he went 3-3, with two RBIs and a double. Alex Peredo also had a big day at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI. His two hits were both extra-bases with one double and one triple.

The Friars had a non-district contest on Saturday at Greenhill and it was one of the most interesting games in Bishop Lynch's history. The game ended in a tie with a score of 22-22, yes this is a baseball score. Both teams scored 17 runs in the final three innings, with 16 total runs coming in the ninth. Alex Peredo, Aaron Reeves and Will Maya all hit their first home runs of the season. Maya finished 3-4 with six RBIs.

Grayson Wise also had a day to remember at the plate, going 3-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs. In the fifth inning, Wise hit an RBI triple and it was the junior's fifth triple of the season which tied Kelly Minissale '03 for second all-time in school history for triples in a season. The record is six, held by Russell Lewis '96 and Preston Beck '09.
