DALLAS, TX -- After taking down the Panthers in game one 8-2, the Bishop Lynch baseball team defeated Parish Episcopal 8-3 on Friday evening at Fleeger Stadium. Senior
Grayson Wise stepped up big time at the plate, scoring two runs while knocking in two to help the Friars move to 2-0 in district play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bishop Lynch fell behind early in the game Friday night as the Panther hit a leadoff home run to make it 1-0. But much like they have all season, the team bounced back to take the lead in the top of the second with a big, bases-loaded double from
Grayson Wise to make it 3-1 in favor of the visiting team. Wise later came around to score on a sacrifice bunt from
Sebastian Vasquez to make it 4-1, and the team never looked back.
Tedy Orlando got the start on the bump for the Friars and lasted 1.1 innings with three strikeouts. Because of the early exit, the Friar bullpen needed to step up to the challenge and that is exactly what they did.
Sebastian Vasquez and
Will Heatly combined to throw 5.2 innings while only allowing one hit with four strikeouts.
The defense also stepped up big time as the Panthers were trying to put together a rally in the bottom of the second with bases loaded and only one out. The Parish batter hit a hard line-drive to second base but Wise got his glove on it and turned a double play to end the threat.
The Friars only had five hits in the game, but they were patient at the plate to draw seven walks. The speed of the team showed as they stole a total of seven bases in the contest to set up important insurance runs late in the game.
