Friars Claim Back-to-Back Regional Title, Men Finish Runner-Up

ARLINGTON — The Bishop Lynch track and field teams delivered another standout performance at Maverick Stadium on Tuesday, as the Friar women captured the TAPPS 6A North Regional championship for the second consecutive year, while the men finished as runners-up.

The women ran away with the team title, scoring 176 points to outpace Ursuline Academy (133) and Liberty Christian (117.5). On the men's side, the Friars surged past John Paul II in the final event to secure second place with 131 points, finishing behind Liberty Christian (153).

In total, Bishop Lynch recorded 20 podium finishes across 18 events and qualified 26 student-athletes for the TAPPS State Championship.

Men's Team Highlights

Harman Pope led the way with a dominant distance performance, capturing gold in both the 3200 meters and 1600 meters while also adding key points in the 800. He edged out a John Paul II competitor in the 3200 with a time of 10:31.84, finishing just 0.41 seconds ahead of second place, before cruising to a 4:32.30 victory in the 1600.

Mason Schopfer also had a strong showing in the field events, winning the shot put with a throw of 45-2.75 and qualifying for state in the discus with a mark of 134-7, just shy of a runner-up finish.

Women's Team Highlights

Trinity Thurman delivered a record-breaking performance in the pole vault, capturing gold while setting a new school record with a clearance of 12-3.25. The mark ranks among the top performances in Texas this season and places her among the nation's top vaulters.

Ra'Nyah Lockhart-Sadler, Charli Koldyke, and Zoe Turner also played key roles in the team title. Lockhart-Sadler placed second in both the 100 and 200 meters and was a member of the first-place 4x100 relay team.

Koldyke earned a bronze medal in the high jump and contributed to the first-place 4x400 relay team and third-place 4x200 relay team. Turner was part of both gold-medal relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400, while also finishing second in the 400 meters.

NEXT UP
The Friars head to Waco for the TAPPS 6A State Championship Meet on Friday and Saturday, May 8–9. Field events will be held at Robinson High School on Friday, with running events taking place Saturday at Panther Stadium.
