Friar Women Finish State Runner-Up, Men Place Seventh at TAPPS Championships

WACO — The Bishop Lynch track and field teams closed out the TAPPS 6A State Championship Meet with a weekend full of podium finishes, school records, and personal bests. The Friar women earned a state runner-up finish, while the men placed seventh overall. Both teams improved on last season's finishes, when the women placed fourth, and the men finished 12th.

The state meet began Friday at Robinson High School with the field events, where senior Trinity Thurman highlighted the day by capturing the state title in the pole vault with a winning clearance of 10-6.

The Friars added four more podium finishes on Friday, fueled by personal-best performances from Mason Schopfer, Presley Tomatis, Charli Koldyke, and Owen Zsohar. Schopfer placed third in the shot put with a throw of 46-0, while Tomatis earned bronze in the women's shot put with a mark of 33-5.25. Koldyke cleared 5-0 to finish second in the high jump, and Zsohar took silver in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-6.

After a strong opening day, the running events on Saturday brought even more fireworks.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Alaina Oommen, Ava Sanders, Zoe Turner, and Ra'Nyah Lockhart-Sadler opened the day with a gold medal performance while breaking the school record with a time of 47.90.

Lockhart-Sadler continued her standout weekend in the 100 meters, placing third while breaking a school record that had stood since 2007. The sophomore crossed the line in 12.04, surpassing the previous mark by 0.16 seconds.

She added another record-breaking performance in the 200 meters later in the meet. Already holding the school record, Lockhart-Sadler shattered her previous best by more than half a second, earning silver with a time of 24.48.

The Friars' final medal of the weekend came in the women's 4x200-meter relay, where Naomi Mangwiro, Charli Koldyke, Madison Murphy, and Ava Sanders edged Liberty Christian by 0.10 seconds to secure the silver medal.

Congratulations to the entire Bishop Lynch track and field team and coaching staff on an incredible season filled with personal bests, school records, podium finishes, and continued program growth. The Friars' success throughout the spring showcased the dedication, depth, and bright future of Bishop Lynch's track and field program.
