Perfect night for the women soccer seniors

DALLAS - In what is always a bittersweet game, the Friars took down HSAA 1-0 to get the senior night victory yesterday.

Seniors filled the starting lineup as Coach Tennyson wanted to get them all on the field one last time. It was especially a touching moment for Sophia Pumpelly, who tore her ACL and meniscus in the first game of the season, to be on the field with her teammates, even though it only lasted a few minutes and she couldn't run around. For the first five-ten minutes, Coach subbed out seniors one at a time so each player could have their moment. Senior captain Charlotte Lane was unable to be at the game, and she was in everyone's hearts. She will return to action on Monday when the Friars host rival Ursuline.

The first half remained scoreless, even with BL controlling the game on both sides of the ball. The second half remained the same, but senior Gabby Dunn put one in the back of the net in the first few minutes to give the Friars a 1-0 lead. The assist came from sophomore Danella Howard. This goal would end up being the game-winner.

Before the game, Bishop Lynch put together a great ceremony for all the seniors and their families.

Olivia Braden, escorted by her parents Paul and Virginia Braden, is a four-year Friar soccer member and plays forward and center mid. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas before coming to Bishop Lynch and is the Engagement Coordinator for the Lima House. She is a BL Ambassador, in the National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, and Best Buddies Activities Coordinator. She has been accepted into Texas A&M University, Fordham University, and the University of Colorado Boulder. Olivia's favorite memory was when they all were playing scriblio in study hall and we couldn't stop laughing and so we got yelled at.

Gabby Dunn is accompanied by her mother Roni, her father Rich, and her sister Caroline. Gabby attended St. Thomas Aquinas before coming to Bishop Lynch and is a member of the Angelico House. She has been in the Friars soccer team for four years playing as an outside midfielder. She has served as a BL Belonging Board member, BL Ambassadors, Student Leadership, and the Social Justice Club. When Gabby graduates, she plans on majoring in kinesiology and minoring in sports management at either Kansas State University or the University of Pittsburgh. Gabby's favorite memory is scoring the winning goal in semifinals that took us to state sophomore year.

Alyssa Herrera is escorted by her parents Charles and Lindsay Herrera. Alyssa has played outside defender in her three years on the team. Before coming to BL, she went to St. marks, and she is a mentor captain in the Montfort House while also serving as a BL Ambassador. Herrera has been accepted into Penn State and Hawaii but wants to attend NYU to major in Psychology. Alyssa's favorite memory was having a locker room party and going to Torchys every game day last year

Sanaa Knight is accompanied by her parents Marcus and Tengemana (pronounced Tang-uh-mon-uh or Tang for short) Knight. Before attending Bishop Lynch, Sanna went to The Canterbury Episcopal School. She has served as one of the women's soccer team managers for the last two years while also being a BL Ambassador and the Bishop Lynch Social Justice Club president. Knight plans to attend Florida A&M University next fall to study Physical Therapy. Sanaa's favorite memory was filming the games with quinn and hearing all of our commentary on the hudl.

Quinn Nelson is the daughter of Quitze and Tommy Nelson. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas before stepping foot on Bishop Lynch's campus. In her own words, Quinn is a magnificent manager and has served in that position all four years. She is a mentor captain in the DePorres House and plans to major in business and marketing while getting a minor in psychology next fall. Quinn's favorite memory was when she went adventuring and climbed a hill at the all saints game and no one knew where she was except my bestie of course.

Sophia Pumpelly is escorted by her parents Jill and Jason Pumpelly, and her sister Bella. She graduated from St. John's Episcopal School before becoming Friar.  Due to her ACL and meniscus injury in the first game this year, she has transitioned into a team photographer and cheerleader. Sophia is the president of the Best Buddies Club, a member of the Best Buddies Student Advisory Board, HR Director and officer of the Ambassadors program, and a member of many honors societies and clubs at Bishop Lynch. She does not know where she wants to attend school yet, but is looking at Texas A&M University, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Tennessee and plans to study biomedical engineering.

Kelsey Schmoll is accompanied by her parents, Marsha and Dan Schmoll, and older sister Kristina. She attended St. Paul the Apostle school before coming to BL and is a member of the Aquinas House. Kelsey has been an outside defender for the Friars for the last four years and serves as an Ambassador. She plans on attending the University of Arkansas to study education to become a teacher. Kelsey's favorite memory is when quinn and her ran on the field at allen stadium when it was raining and we got yelled at.

Mariana Zevallos, escorted by her parents Ana and Paul Zevallos and her sister Adriana Zevallos, is a four-year midfielder for the Friar soccer team. She attended St. Rita Catholic School and is a mentor captain in the Siena House. before coming to Bishop Lynch and is the Engagement Coordinator for the Lima House. Mariana is a member of the BL ambassadors, student leadership, and best buddies. She plans on majoring in psychology at either Saint Edwards University, Florida Gulf Coast University, or the University of North Texas. My favorite memory is when my freshman year we were running a mile and our senior goal keeper had an equipment malfunction.

Charlotte Lane is unable to be in attendance tonight, but would be escorted by her mother, Carolyn, her father, Michael, and her sister Catherine. Charlotte attended Highland Park middle school before studying at BL. She has played all four years at BL as the center back while also being a mentor leader in the Aquinas house and a BL Ambassador. Lane plans to attend the University of Oklahoma, the University of Texas, or the University of Georgia to study business or communications next fall. Charlotte's favorite memory is her sophomore year the upperclassmen made the players who hadn't ever been to State perform a dance right before the game. And thanks to that dance, we won State!!
